With a Harmonious
Mind and Kind Intentions, Our Qi Is Flowing Freely and Our Bodies Are Healthy
Written by Master Ou, Wen Wei
If we view a person as a machine, then
the person’s internal organs, four limbs, and five sense organs are all like
components and parts of the machine.
One machine has many components and
parts. If the machine is fully equipped, then it is ready to run. Still, a
machine cannot run even with all its components and parts unless it has the
required initial driving force.
In general, running a machine requires
electricity — which is invisible. It is the same for a human body. If a
person’s internal organs, four limbs, and five sense organs — the “components
and parts” — are completely developed, then the person’s body has the physical
foundation to function regularly. A human body, however, is still not able to
function normally with merely these “components and parts.” All the organs of a
human body also require one type of initial driving force to function. This
type of initial driving force, in terms of our daily language, is life force,
whereas, from the point of view of modern medical science, it is various kinds
of physiological abilities of the organs.
As we know, after a machine
continuously runs, its components and parts will abrade, affecting the
functioning of the machine. We also know that if the original driving force
running the machine — the electricity — is not regular (like high voltage or low
voltage), it will also affect the machine’s normal functioning. When
electricity stops being supplied, the machine will not be able to work.
A human body is like that too. If one
of a human body’s internal organs, four limbs, and five sense organs has
problems or gets damaged, then the body will have illness. A human body’s
internal organs, four limbs, and five sense organs are composed of all sorts of
material elements according to certain proportions, while all sorts of material
elements continue being consumed when they function. Accordingly, we need to
have meals and to eat many kinds of food to supplement the material demands of
all the organs in our body.
If one of a human body’s organs is
lacking in certain required material elements or if there is an increase of
harmful material elements, then it is highly likely that the organ will become
diseased. This is the first cause as to why a human body gets sick.
There is a second cause as to why a
human body gets sick. The second cause is that all sorts of organs’
physiological abilities become used up as they function. If an organ’s
physiological ability is overly expended, it will also have illness. This type
of illness, resulting from the physiological ability being overly expended, is
even harder to cure.
People ought to find a way to cure
themselves if they get sick. They usually go to see a doctor when they are ill
— a Chinese doctor, a Western doctor — or they take medicines. All these are
very normal actions. Many medical treatments are, I think, effective, as they
have been proven by human beings’ continuous experiences in the past thousands
of years.
Nevertheless, it is a pity that there
are some diseases that are not curable, no matter how many medicines are taken,
such as all kinds of chronic diseases and diseases related to immunity problems
(like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, AIDS). In addition, there are many diseases,
such as heart diseases and all types of cancers, that are also very hard to
truly cure with medication.
So, for these kinds of diseases, is
there any method to completely cure them? My experience, over several dozen
years, and many of my students’ experiences have all proved: Yes! There is one
method. The reason I say this is that I have created a good method.
According to what kind of philosophy
did I create this method? It was designed according to the features of human
beings’ physiological structure and the relationship between human beings and
great nature.
The diseases that cannot be cured by
taking medicines are mostly caused by the over-expenditure of certain functions
of the body, while, at the same time, there are no ways to replenish the
energies the body needs. As a result, the body gets sick. Just like a machine,
when the voltage is extremely low, the machine’s functioning slows down and
becomes irregular. If there is no electricity, then the machine is not able to
run at all. The same idea applies to the consumption of a human body’s
function. When a certain function is overly expended, it will not work
properly. Then it will become ill. If it is completely consumed, the organ
will stop working and it will give rise to one’s life being in danger. Take
heart disease as one example. Heart disease principally means that the initial
driving force of a heart cannot sustain its regular functioning and cannot
maintain a regular supply blood. By the time the driving force of a heart is
completely used up, it stops beating suddenly. If it stops beating more than
three minutes, the human body dies.
For each of our bodies, it is our
immunity that actually generates healing effects on diseases. We often see a
certain type of phenomenon: when flu is spreading in an area, not everybody
actually gets it. There is always a small number of people who get no
infection. Why is that? It is because these people’s immunity at that time
performs quite well and quite normally. Therefore, it can kill or eliminate the
virus and bacteria invading the human body. In these cases, these people will
not get infected by the flu.
Through this phenomenon we should
comprehend a human body’s physiological structure and the relationship between
human beings and great nature. My qigong technique is therefore designed
according to these characteristics. What is the purpose of absorbing all kinds
of beneficial energies through practicing Pan Gu Shengong? It is for improving
our body’s immunity and improving all kinds of physiological functions.
Consequently, we can achieve the goal of curing diseases, if we have any, or of
strengthening our bodies, if we have no illnesses.
However, what should we do in order to
make better use of this function to achieve the best result? This is the topic
I am going to explore.
We need to have a harmonious mind and
kind intentions. Only when we act in this way, can our Qi flow freely and our
bodies be healthy.
What is “harmony”? I explained it very
clearly in “Heaven, Earth, and Humanity in Harmony”: “ ‘Harmony’ (he)
is unification: close coexistence.” (Ou, 2008, p. 125)
That is to say, we first need to learn
to deal with the relationship between our soul and our flesh, to learn to
respect the needs of our body, and to be in step with and close to our body’s
needs. Thus does a state of “harmony” come to exist.
Nevertheless, people often act against the
harmony of their body’s needs in their daily routines. There is one phenomenon
easily observed — in a buffet, you can see many people exert their utmost to
eat. Why? It is because many people don’t believe the food belongs to them
until they put it into their stomachs. In addition, they might murmur in their
mind, “I have already paid,” as if they will be at a financial disadvantage if
they don’t eat more food. At such a time what people consider is not their
body’s needs, nor do they respect these needs. What they do is not in step with
their body’s needs but instead is to satisfy the needs of their greedy desires.
This is a demonstration that people’s hearts and souls, and their desires, are
not in synch with their bodies. This kind of action certainly affects people’s
health.
There is another phenomenon we often
see and it is a silly thing that each one of us will do; that is, we frequently
lose our tempers.
There are quite a lot of people who
lose their temper or get upset simply because of very minor things in their
daily routine. The reasons people lose their temper are indeed very simple and
very minor. For instance, when hearing another person saying negative words
about him, that person becomes unhappy and wants to even the score with the
other person; when at a disadvantage in terms of money and material goods, he
might also lose his temper. Some people frequently bargain when they go
shopping in a market; they can easily quarrel excitedly, on and on, over just a
small amount of benefit.
Actually, every time we quarrel we
consume our energy. And that is a demonstration of treating our bodies without
harmony.
Therefore, the “harmony of mind” I
advocate primarily requires us to learn to treat our body in a harmonious way,
to learn to respect it, and to learn to treat it kindly with a cordial
attitude. In practice, we should learn to lose our temper less frequently and
eventually not to lose it at all.
In our daily life we should also have
regular living habits. When we eat, we should not eat desperately just because
the food tastes good, and we should not eat desperately even when someone
invites us out and we don’t have to take money out of our own pockets. We need
to try our best to alter the greed in our hearts, and we need to respect our
bodies’ needs and determine how much to eat according to these needs. In regard
to sleep and rest, we also need to respect our bodies’ needs. This is “harmony
of mind.”
The meanings of “kind intentions” and
“harmony of mind” are very close. Of course, the kindness I propose includes
two most fundamental ingredients: one is to learn to respect, and the other is
to learn to give and to contribute.
For instance, in regard to our bodies,
we should learn to respect them. According to their needs, we should determine
how much we eat and sleep. We need to respect their needs and try not to lose
our temper. All these are basic requirements for being kind to our bodies.
What is “to contribute”? It means that
we should want to give our time, our money, and our effort for something or
someone.
If you learn to contribute and
understand that contribution and giving are a higher level of kindness and
benevolence, then, as you learn my Qigong technique, from the bottom of your
heart you should know how to respect your body’s needs and take care of your
body and thereby spend more time practicing Pan Gu Shengong; because every time
you practice Pan Gu Shengong, and every time you sing the songs I have composed
or listen to the songs I sing, you absorb energy one more time. Whether you can
do so really depends on the level you reach in being kind to your body and in
loving your body. If you reach a rather high level, you would naturally want to
spend more time and find more time to practice Pan Gu Shengong, sing my songs,
listen to my songs, give healings to others, etc. If you can do so, then you
don’t need to ask: how many times should I practice Pan Gu Shengong or how many
times should I sing Master Ou’s songs, so that I can recover from my diseases
faster and become truly healthy? You just need to ask yourself, what kind of
level have you reached for the kindness and love you have for your body.
The level of a person’s kindness and
love he or she has for his or her body can be demonstrated through daily
actions. For example, whether one’s living habits are healthy and normal;
whether one is adjusting past unhealthy habits; whether one really loses one’s
temper less frequently; whether one is more kind to others; whether one would
sincerely like to help others; whether one strengthens one’s confidence to gain
truly good health by practicing Pan Gu Shengong…all of these reflect the level
and the explicit demonstration of a person’s true love he or she holds for his
or her body. If this person still hesitates as in the past, still gets angry
due to very minor things as before, and is still as lazy as before — when he/she
practiced Pan Gu Shengong less than two times in three days as if going fishing
for three days and then drying the nets for two — then how can one say that the
kindness and love one has for one’s body has reached a high level?
If a person’s disease is serious or he has
many kinds of illnesses, then he should spend more time in practicing Pan Gu
Shengong and singing my songs. He should even learn to maintain a peaceful
mindset and try to lose his temper less frequently. He should even learn to be
more concerned with others. Then he will truly reach the state of having a
harmonious mind and kind intentions.
When a person reaches this state, what he or
she does coincides with “Take kindness and benevolence as basis; take frankness
and friendliness to heart” advocated by my Qigong technique; therefore, the
energy this person absorbs through practicing Pan Gu Shengong and singing my
songs can be the greatest, the fastest, and the best. Moreover, the effect of
automatic adjustment generated from my Qigong technique will also be faster and
better. As a result, the energy absorbed from singing my songs and listening to
my songs is quicker and better than before.
Qi flowing freely refers to the life force and
the substances inside a human body flowing easily and smoothly.
The life force dominates all the organs’
material movement, flow, and metabolism. If the operation and flow of a
person’s life force and substances are always maintained in an unimpeded state,
then the person’s body will sustain its healthy state.
Therefore I recommend to all of my
students who practice my Qigong technique to truly comprehend that with a
harmonious mind and kind intentions, our Qi is flowing and our bodies are
healthy.
It is most important to have a
harmonious mind and kind intentions. Only when a person’s heart and soul reach
this state, can the function of that person’s life force and physiological
abilities be regular; they are what drive the flow and function of the
substances in the body to be normal. In this case, a person can achieve truly
good health.
During this process, we need to learn
to have more love and less late. Having more love and less hate is also
primarily expressed in treating our bodies with more love, more respect, more
contribution, and more care. Treating others should be the same as well. We
also need to treat others with more love and less hate and give them more
attention and help.
In the past, I recommended that my
students work on “the five-practices”
(Ou, 1999), which is a process for them to learn and understand the principle
that with a harmonious mind and kind intentions, our Qi is flowing and our
bodies are healthy. There are many excellent students who have been diligently
working on “the five-practices.” During this process they helped others, and
more importantly, they learned true kindness and learned to have more love;
therefore, the quality of their heart and soul improved, and so did their
health.
Now, I have created one more method for
people to regulate their bodies and minds, which is to sing the songs that I
have written. It is also a very good method that has been proven by many
people’s experience.
I hope that more people comprehend and
understand this principle, that with a harmonious mind and kind intentions, our
Qi is flowing and our bodies are healthy, so that more people achieve good
health and happiness.
