The
Interview with Mr. Rod Taylor in
Canada
– By
Jessica Lin, July 2006
J (Jessica): I am very glad that I have
this opportunity to have an interview with Mr. Rod Taylor, who is the Pan
Gu Shengong moving form and non-moving form instructor in
Canada.
Rod, I am so glad to meet with you here in Canada.
R (Rod): Thank you. It’s good to be here
with you.
J: Well, I would like to know why did you
become a Pan Gu Shengong teacher?
R: I had been practicing and teaching
meditation for about 30 years before learning Pan Gu Shengong. While I
was traveling in the
United
States in 2001, I met someone who told me about Pan Gu Shengong and took
me to a course that Master Ou was offering. I learned his moving and
non-moving form of Qigong, and found that it was very good; it felt like a
meditation for my whole body. I really liked that experience. After I
came back home, I was meeting with a group of people about meditation.
When they heard about me learning Pan Gu Shengong, they said they wanted
to learn it too. So some months later, in 2002, I went and became
qualified by Master Ou as a Moving Form teacher, so I could teach them.
J: Sounds great! How do you like being a
teacher?
R: I love being a teacher! I started
teaching Pan Gu Shengong because people said they wanted to learn it. But
I was surprised when I started teaching how much I really enjoyed teaching
it. I also felt myself deepening in my appreciation and understanding of
Pan Gu Shengong. So by teaching it I received benefits for myself as well
as helping others - both of which I enjoy.
J: What is the source of your students? How
do you attract them?
R: Some of my students have come because
they know me and know about my involvement with personal and spiritual
development and now want to find out about Pan Gu Shengong. Sometimes I
advertise in newspapers and hold public lectures on Pan Gu Shengong. I
have also taken part in health conferences and seminars where people come
to find out about natural healing methods and I talk about Pan Gu
Shengong. Some people who learn Pan Gu Shengong have jobs helping others
and they recommend their clients to come to me to learn it. Sometimes
when I am traveling to conferences I meet people who ask me to teach
them. Those are some of the ways.
In the public lectures and other talks, I
tell people about Master Ou and how he founded Pan Gu Shengong. I tell
them some stories about practitioners’ experiences and how they healed
themselves with Pan Gu Shengong. I also tell them about the motto and the
Pan Gu Shengong philosophy for living a kind and benevolent life. I talk
about increased balance, improved health, greater energy, enhanced
well-being and other practical benefits from Pan Gu Shengong, and I tell
them about how easy it is to learn and practice it. I also take time to
transmit Qi to them in a group. People also have an opportunity to ask
questions.
J: How many people have you taught in total
so far?
R: For the moving form, I’ve taught about
75 people. I just recently became qualified to teach the Non-Moving Form
and the Healing Skill. I’ve taught the Non-Moving Form to about 10
people. They were actually waiting for me to come back from the
Non-Moving Teacher Training Seminar to teach them. I’ve taught more
people this past year than I have in previous years, so I think the
interest in Pan Gu Shengong is going to keep growing.
J: How are their responses?
R: Everybody likes it. People like the
course and they enjoy the energy. Some people are very enthusiastic about
it.
J: Are they able to keep practicing daily?
R: It really varies. Just like my
experience of teaching meditation, some people stick to it and do it
regularly, and some people don’t. So it is a matter of encouraging people
and supporting them, so they will be able to do it as much as they can.
J: How do you encourage them to keep
practicing?
R: One of the things I do, is schedule a
meeting about a week after I teach a course, so the new students will come
back together with me. That is a chance to refresh their understanding of
the practice, remind them of the reasons why Pan Gu Shengong is so good,
and encourage them with some of the stories of others healing results.
Sometimes people get a little mixed up while they are doing the practice
by themselves in the beginning. So at this meeting I can make sure that
everybody has the correct information to practice correctly. That is very
helpful.
Another thing I have done is hold group
practice sections for practitioners once a week. Each week when we start
our meeting, we sit and have some green tea together. I brought some back
from
China
when I was there. People like it and we have a little time to chat and
make a personal connection with each other. Then we practice our Pan Gu
Shengong together using Master Ou’s CD. Afterward I transmit Qi to the
group while they are standing or sitting in a circle. Then we sit and
talk about Pan Gu Shengong. Sometimes I tell them some news that comes
from the Pan Gu Shengong organization or some healing stories I heard from
people I’ve met. Sometimes practitioners like to share their own
experiences - sometimes about their experience in the group practice or in
the Qi healing circle, and sometimes about their experience using Pan Gu
Shengong in their life, how it benefits them and how it fits in for them.
The practice sessions seem to be very good for people who want to have an
experience of extra Qi. It also seems to be good for people who may not
be practicing regularly. By coming to the group, it gives them experience
and encouragement to practice more regularly.
Sometimes I advertise a refresher meeting,
so people who haven’t been practicing regularly have a chance to come and
get started again. They can ask questions, receive information about the
practice, hear about the benefits people receive from practicing Pan Gu
Shengong, and experience the stronger energy that comes from practicing in
a group.
J: How do you organize some follow-up
activities?
R: I use email as a prime way to keep
connected with people. It is an easy way to pass on the Pan Gu Shengong
organization newsletters, to invite people to attend the weekly group
practice sessions, and to advertise lectures and courses so practitioners
can tell their friends about them. There are a few people who don’t have
emails so sometimes I send out a letter in the mail to them. Also, during
our weekly group practice sessions we talk about scheduling our follow-up
activities and when courses are coming up. So that keeps them informed
and they can tell other people.
J: Did you have any difficult situations
while teaching? How did you handle that?
R: For the most part, teaching is easy and
really pleasant. Sometimes when I am giving a lecture, people question
whether Pan Gu Shengong is different from other practices. I like
answering those questions because this is a chance to talk about the
benefits of Pan Gu Shengong and how it is complementary to other practices
they may have. I tell people it is best to learn Pan Gu Shengong when
they feel ready to practice it regularly. It is a practice and you have
to do it to receive the benefits. So if people don’t feel ready to
practice it regularly, it is good to wait until they do feel ready. But
it is such a good a practice, I encourage people to learn it if they are
interested or curious.
Sometimes people who have already learned
Pan Gu Shengong are not so sure about the benefits or whether they are
still feeling the energy. So I encourage them to make an appointment with
me and come in and have a Qi healing whenever they wish. I also suggest
that they come to practice with the whole group in our weekly meetings
because they will experience more energy that way.
Those are the key examples; otherwise I
think I have enough experience and have learned enough ways from Master Ou
to answer any questions or challenges that may come up.
J: Are you enjoying teaching Pan Gu
Shengong, and why?
R: Yes, it has been great for me! Teaching
Pan Gu Shengong really deepens me in my appreciation of this knowledge and
strengthens my Qi experience. The teaching process allows me to absorb
more energy and allows me to transmit it to others. I love to teach and
help others; I always have. This is a teaching that is very accessible to
a lot of people because it is something people can easily do. People of
all ages and conditions can do it. People who don’t have much strength
can do it and people with other practices can fit it in without a
problem. So it is a real pleasure to be able to help others in a way that
is easy and accessible for all. I love to be able to do that for others
and to feel the energy increasing in me.
J: Did you attend any advanced training and
events of Pan Gu Shengong?
R: Yes, one of the things I have learned is
the advanced, condensed form, which I really love. It is valuable to
learn it after practicing the moving form and the non-moving form for a
while. It is a powerful practice and it is very short so it is easy to
fit in each day. It has also given me a deeper quality of connection with
Pan Gu and the source energy of the universe, and I love that.
I was also invited by Master Ou to go on a
three-week tour of
China in
September 2005 with a group of Pan Gu Shengong teachers - about half from
North America and half from China. It was a wonderful cross-cultural trip
in China to many beautiful places, and Master Ou gave many lectures, deep
knowledge, and Qi energy healings. It was a very beautiful experience.
When I came back home, I felt like I brought back within me a feeling of
what it is like in China. This connects me more with the source of Master
Ou’s knowledge and helps me feel more of a connection to Master Ou’s
description of the future world and how that might feel and look.
I also went to Hong Kong in May 2006 to
attend the Non-Moving Form Teacher Training seminar that Master Ou was
offering there. I had the chance to meet many senior teachers from China
who had been practicing Pan Gu Shengong right from the beginning of Master
Ou’s teaching in the early 1990s. I learned from the knowledge and
experience they shared.
Before and after that training seminar I
spent a couple of more weeks in China, living and visiting with some of
the Pan Gu Shengong teachers there. I learned a lot from them and I
enjoyed meeting with many Pan Gu Shengong students. I talked with some of
the students who had healed from serious illnesses using Pan Gu Shengong.
All of those experiences were really helpful and enjoyable to me.
Another thing I’ve done since becoming a
Moving Form teacher is to travel to places in North America where Master
Ou was teaching. I just observed him teaching everything he teaches, and
I found it was great for strengthening my teaching. I took notes during
those sessions and I got some good ideas and useful knowledge for when I
am teaching. Each time I would listen to him lecturing, teaching the
moving form, teaching the non-moving form, and offering other courses and
events. Sometimes I would have heard everything before, but when I came
home I would still feel deeper in my practice and more confident in
understanding his teaching. So it has really been very beneficial for me
to just be with Master Ou and watch his teaching.
J: What are your thoughts about teaching Pan
Gu Shengong in the future?
R: I am really looking forward to
continuing the pleasure of teaching it. I think that Pan Gu Shengong will
become more and more popular with people. I have taught people who have
been trained in Reiki , therapeutic touch, massage therapy, and other
healing practices. Many times those people are really sensitive to subtle
energy and really like the Qi they experience with Pan Gu Shengong. Some
of them then recommend it to their clients - so I think there will be more
and more interest from people who are already experienced with energy, to
learn something as valuable as Pan Gu Shengong and then recommend it to
others.
Also, I think the public in North America is
becoming more aware and interested in Qigong now. Pan Gu Shengong is so
much easier and more effective than many other practices that people
learn. I think it is just a matter of us talking to more and more people,
perhaps transmitting some Qi to them so they feel good with the energy,
and then having people tell others about it and invite us to come and talk
to more people.
For myself, I feel teaching is a service I
want to keep providing to others as a way for me to use my life to
contribute to other people’s well-being. I am really looking forward to
continuing to do that in the future.
J: That is wonderful! I would like to
thank you so much for your time to share your experience with us. I am
sure that we will benefit from it. Thank you again.
R: Thank you so much for this talk. I
really enjoyed it.
